Khariar now hopes for rail connectivity
With the visit of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to Kalahandi and Balangir districts, the hope of people of Khariar in Nuapada district has soared high.
"We hope that the Minister, who is the first-ever Cabinet-rank Railway Minister representing Odisha, would consider taking up our longstanding issue of linking Kantabanji to Koksara with a new railway line," said Tapan Dash, secretary of Khadial Bikash Manch, a people's forum. "We have only 31 km of railway line on the border. Construction of Kantabanji-Koksara via Khadial-Duazhar-Golamunda railway line, which has already been entered into the bluebook, would provide rail communication to half of the Khariar (Assembly) constituency," added he.
Khadial Bikash Manch office-bearers and Khariar MLA Adhiraj Panigrahi have planned to meet the Railway Minister to submit a memorandum in this regard.
The Kantabanji-Koksara via Khadial railway project has been under review for a long time. People of remote areas of Nuapada district who neither can meet nor communicate with the Minister have approached mediapersons to raise their issues. "We request the Minister to sanction mobile towers in our areas," said Tilsingh Jhankar, Sarpanch of Sunabeda.
The people of Kermeli, Halwa Pali, Sunabeda, Soseng, Bhainsadani, Ghatmal and Nangalbod panchayats need mobile communication to get in touch with the health and agriculture personnel.
The children also need to attend online classes," says Biju Jhankar of Sunabeda. "Will the Minister listen to our request," asks Tamra Majhi, a tribal resident of Kermeli, who is an engineer by profession.
