Nuapada family to get pucca house now

Kanhu Majhi of Kokpadar village in Nuapada district is now assured that he would get a pucca house to live in. "The BDO of Sinapali block came to my house on Sunday to inform that I have been included in the list," says Kanhu gleefully as if he has achieved an unachievable. Kanhu with his wife and an 11-year-old son lives in a small hut with thatched roof. "My condition is very bad. This thatched roof cannot resist heavy rain; water pours heavily inside," adds Kanhu, who never expected that a Government officer would arrive at his doorstep to inform him about Government support.

Sadasib Naik, BDO, Sinapali, said he immediately rushed to Kokpadar to meet Kanhu when he learnt about his condition from some media reports. "He is a deserving person. It is a matter of regret that such a poor family has not yet benefited under the RH scheme. Thus, I committed him that he would get a house to live this year," said the BDO. "Visiting the house of a poor man provides you insight; you get to know better about his living conditions.

Once I reached his doorstep, I could know that Kahnu is a very good dairy farmer. So, I assured him financial support under the MGNREGS to construct a cow shed. Besides, he will also be provided fund for construction of a dug-well," added the BDO. "The instant action by block administration reveals two things. First, they are sensitive towards need of people; and second, accountability of the officials has increased due to constant monitoring at the district as well State level," remarks Tapan Dash, a journalist.
