Shelter badly needed for poor Nuapada family
After knowing about the plight of one Akhila Sabar and his family of Kotamal village of Ranimunda GP in Nuapada district, Pradeep Kumar Pradhan, Chairman of the Taluk Level Legal Services Committee (TLSC), Khariar, has asked the local BDO to initiate immediate steps to ensure basic rights to the family that consists of Akhila, his wife Munge and their three grandchildren.
Based on a news report that Akhila, Munge and their grandchildren Kabita, Priyanka and Babita are in a miserable condition due to poverty, the Odisha State Legal Services Authority had initiated suo moto action and intimated the TLSC to cause an enquiry.
The TLSC by engaging a paralegal volunteer (PLV) had collected report on the livelihood of Akhila. Stating that the report well confirms with the news published that Akhila, Munge and their grandchildren are living in miserable conditions withou food and shelter, the TLSA Chairman has asked the BDO to take necessary action. "As observed by Honorable Supreme Court in Chameli Singh Vs. State of UP (1996) 2 SCC 549, right to live is secured only when a person is assured of all facilities including the right to food, water, decent environment, education medical care and shelter. These are the basic human rights known to any civilised society.
Shelter for human being is not a mere protection of his life and limb; it is home where he has opportunities to grow physically, mentally, intellectually and spiritually," stated the TSLC head in his letter to the BDO.
"At present, there is no safe house for staying of Akila Sabar and his family members. Rainy season is coming soon; so, a temporary arrangement is badly required for their safe staying," he further stated.
